Monday morning Hillside trails- classical or skate ski
Mon Jan 12 06:00:00 UTC 2009
WEATHER: Here in the darkest days of winter lets be practical about going out at 6 AM. A few of us have discussed temperatures and decided that if the temp at Service High is LESS THAN 5 DEGREES we will cancel on any given day --- for these Monday & Thursday events. Each morning while it is cold, check the NOAA web site MESONET page for the temperature at Service High. If it is below 5 degrees when you check IN THE MORNING, the 6 AM MeetUp is automatically CANCELLED for that morning. --------- Brrrrr -------------- Brrrrrrr ----------------- Brrrrrrrrr ----- Bbbrrrbbrrrr- WHAT: Classical or skate ski for 45 - 60 minutes on snowy hillside trails. WHEN: 6 AM meeting. We'll keep it short enough to be gone by 7 or even a few minutes before if participants want. Be there a minute or 2 BEFORE 6 AM so we can start no later than 1-2 minutes after the hour. WHERE: Abbott Road - Lighted Loop parking lot- now that there is enough snow to groom ski trails we will have to use the Multi-Purpose trails if we want to walk and bring dogs. DETAILS: - South Anch location for short, BRISK morning ski --- if we have dogs we will go to the Multi trail; w/o dogs we will ski the lighted loop and maybe Double Bubble type stuff. - Some mornings are surprisingly warm so do not over-dress; dress lightly &/or in layers. - We adjust the pace to who comes along. BRING: - Skis & the appropriate length poles (easy pace; no pressure -- come learn if you want) - Water - Small pack to shed layers into as you warm up - HEADLAMP We typically do not use them but . . . for safety DOGS: Yes, but be aware we have to stay on Multi-purpose trails if we bring the K-9s. Bring a leash and dog-drop-bags. CONTACT: Doug Van Etten 244-6610

Glen Alps tp Prospect Heights -- A quick Sunday morning downhill cruise
Sun Jan 11 09:30:00 UTC 2009
****************************** ======= Posted for Robert ======= ****************************** Address all questions directly to Robert WHAT/ WHERE: Ski down the powerline, gasline o&/or South Rim trils from Glen Alps to Prospect heights. Meet at Prospect Heights -- we will leave some cars here for a shuttle, taking all the skiers up in 1/2 of the cars. This should not be your first time on skis but most skiers will be able to handle this terrain, especailly if we have new snow. WHEN: Sunday, Janaury 11th. Meet at 9:30 AM and leave at 9:40 AM for Glen Alps. Should take about 1 hour and 20 minuets. Depending on how long we stop to admire the view. BRING: -- Skis (Touring skis, with or without metal edges would be best. Most any ski except skate skis or downhill skis will work) -- Clothing appropriate for the weather. This web site will tell you the temp at the start (Glen Alps) and the finish (see data for "Upper Hillside"). -- Camera, since the sunrise may be spectacular DOGS: They are OK but they may complicate the car shuttle so they are discouraged unless you work out shuttle vehicles with agreeable drivers before hand. Please note in your RSVP if you want to bring a dog(s). CONTACT: Robert
